The enterprising farmers in Kenya who provide the tea tree oil used by The Body Shop, have been growing tea tree organically since 2007, as a way of diversifying their income and planning for the future.
Once the tea tree has grown to two metres tall, these experts hand-pick the leaves. This helps ensure The Body Shop receives higher quality oil – as only the best leaves are chosen. Each leaf is mixed with water in the distillation unit, and pressurised steam is passed through the leaves, which releases the oil. The oil and vapours are cooled, condensing further.
Any excess water is removed and the oil is then ready to be used by The Body Shop in the Tea Tree range of skin care products, where it’s mixed with the formulas to deliver clinically-proven Tea Tree results.
