THE LATEST DISCOVERY IN SKIN SCIENCE – SK-II INTRODUCES ITS NEW SIGNATURE SERIES SKINCARE RANGE

We are all aware of the stress our skin encounters on a daily basis through poor diet, air pollution, UV exposure and hormonal imbalance, so it’s no wonder that our skin loses its ability to maintain its radiance and firmness as we age. Going right to the heart of fundamental skin care, SK-II has developed the NEW SK-II Signature Series range to target these external stresses and to help to restore skin’s firmness and radiance – giving the skin back its own natural ‘power.’
Driven by the insight that the skin loses its resilience as we age, SK-II scientists began investigating the concept of Skin Power, the skin’s own natural ability to withstand stress and maintain its texture, radiance and firmness. Delving further the study revealed the existence of a Skin Tipping Point. As our Skin Power declines with age, there is a tipping point marked by a sudden
change that typically occurs in the 30s.

Misa Ito, SK-II Scientific Communications Manager explains, “As you age, your skin undergoes different changes. Whilst these may not seem prominent at the start, as the changes accumulate, the signs of ageing become more obvious as the outer layer of the skin is exposed to damage such as oxidation, UV exposure and moisture loss. These new insights prompted SK-II scientists to start looking for the key to restoring Skin Power and prolonging one’s Skin Tipping Point and found the key may lie in the Anti-Oxidant Response Element (ARE1). ARE is a naturally-occurring ‘’control tower” in the skin which activates the production of anti-oxidants in the skin to combat ageing stress. SK-II’s advanced research
has discovered that ARE activity diminishes with age and this leads to a vicious cycle that impacts the skin’s natural ability to restore its firmness, smoothness and radiance.

Breakthrough Ingredient – Oli-Vityl:
Intensive investigation of hundreds of ingredients brought SK-II scientists to the discovery of Oli-Vityl, a new naturally derived ingredient from an olive species that thrives in Tuscany. This breakthrough ingredient helps the skin’s ability to regenerate and restore its original Skin Power. When combined with Pitera™, Oli-Vityl amplifies its efficacy and promotes anti-oxidant proteins
in the skin. The combination of Pitera™ and another new ingredient – Signaline™ work together to supply lost nutrients back to the skin. When combined with new Oli-Vityl, this anti-ageing cocktail boosts the skin’s production of collagen and hyaluronan (the skin’s ability to regenerate itself). Beauty by Design with the Signature Series
Another breakthrough innovation of the Skin Signature Series is its in-store counseling philosophy of helping women to design their beauty. The Beauty Design System involves two aspects: helping women map their known skin needs and helping them discover their unknown skin needs. Known skin needs include the visible signs of ageing like fine lines, wrinkles and sagging.
What is groundbreaking about the new counseling system is that it helps women identify their unknown skin – unknown skin needs are such things as future pigmentation and skin discolourations that are not always visible to the naked eye. From there, SK-II’s beauty counselors can help women design a personalised Skin Signature Series regimen to address specific skin needs.
