HELPS TO DECREASE MELANIN PRODUCTION: Pigmentation is the result of two processes; the first is the synthesis of melanin, which is affected by two key actives in Kiehl’s complex: Ascorbyl Glucoside and Sakura Fruit Extract. Melanin is synthesized in melanosomes within the melanocyte. The rate of melanin synthesis is determined by intracellular enzymes, of which the fastest growing is tyrosinase, the essential enzyme that converts the simple amino acid tyrosine into pigment- altering melanin. Ascorbyl Glucoside and Sakura Fruit Extract are ingredients known to inhibit tyrosinase, therefore helping to decrease the production of melanin.

HELPS TO DECREASE MELANIN TRANSFER : The second process is the release and migration of melanin. The melanin “releases” from the melanosomes, which are then transferred to keratinocytes through the tips of dendrites of the melanocyte. Once this occurs melanin is free to “migrate” from the deeper layers to the upper layers of the skin, eventually causing visible pigmentation on the surface. The blend of Ascorbyl Glucoside and Plum Fruit Extract are known to slow down the migration process by decreasing the dendritic processes.
